The Bridge

from Yggdrasil by End of Arden

/

lyrics

I was sitting on the bridge that spanned the river,
Drinking in the last of summer's sun;
I saw a man, he was old before his years,
His face was wrinkled with the cares of all the days gone by.
And I said to him, "Why do you always look so happy?"
He turned and smiled, and then he said to me:

"I don't care if the sun's not always shining,
It's the same to me if I can lead the life I love.
As you walk along life's highway, whoever you may be,
Don't let people say that you aren't free!"

We sat a while and talked about the weather,
He shook my hand and went upon his way;
I watched him go, in a moment he was far away,
Receding in the distance on the dusty road.
And I still sat there on the bridge that spanned the river,
The sun went down; his words still stayed with me:

"I don't care if the sun's not always shining,
It's the same to me if I can lead the life I love.
As you walk along life's highway, whoever you may be,
Don't let people say that you aren't free!"
