The Hawthorn Tree

from Yggdrasil by End of Arden

/

lyrics

Strolling in a forest glade, I came upon a hawthorn tree,
With twisted trunk and berry red, I thought I heard it say to me:
"You will journey far young man, venturing to distant lands,
Over field and over hill, fording river, creek, and rill
Eating under bush and brier, sleeping by a traveller's fire.
This shall be your lot!"

"I don't mind the wilderness, a traveller I'd like to be,"
This I said with lonely voice to that ancient hawthorn tree.
"There are many miles yet, leave now ere the sun is set.
Speak with folk and learn their lore, passed to them from days of yore.
Beware of dangers on the way, ignore these words and you will pay.
This shall be your lot!"
